Position Overview

The New York Climate Exchange (The Exchange) is a pioneering not-for-profit organization dedicated to climate solutions, aiming to foster community engagement, promote collaboration, enhance climate awareness, and empower underrepresented communities through innovative networking, impactful initiatives, and state-of-the-art facilities. While The Exchange will establish a physical presence, its influence will resonate throughout the city and beyond, incorporating diverse perspectives on climate change from various sectors.

The New York Climate Exchange is seeking a Senior Financial Associate to enhance the financial framework of our organization. This role is crucial in overseeing budgeting, accounting, accounts payable, vendor relations, financial reporting, and other vital financial operations.

Candidates should be adept at working autonomously in a dynamic, start-up atmosphere where responsibilities may shift frequently. This is a full-time position requiring in-person engagement in the city area, with occasional remote work permitted upon prior agreement.

The role reports directly to the Director of Administration and Finance.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary for the Senior Financial Associate ranges from $100,000 to $120,000 annually. The position includes access to comprehensive health and retirement benefits, along with paid time off and sick leave.

Compensation will be determined based on various factors, including qualifications, experience, education, licenses, and specialized training. The stated salary range reflects The Exchange's reasonable estimate of potential compensation at the time of posting.

Key Responsibilities

In collaboration with the Director of Finance and Administration, the Senior Financial Associate will undertake the following duties:

  1. Lead financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting initiatives.
  2. Provide financial insights and develop strategic recommendations to inform business decisions.
  3. Oversee daily financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
  4. Conduct financial analyses to support strategic planning and decision-making.
  5. Serve as a trusted advisor to key stakeholders by preparing financial reports, statements, and presentations.
  6. Establish and implement financial policies and procedures to ensure operational efficiency and compliance.
  7. Collaborate with internal teams to optimize financial processes and enhance efficiency.
  8. Offer training and support to team members and other departments regarding financial management.
  9. Engage with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory bodies as necessary.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related discipline; advanced degrees or professional certifications (e.g., CPA, CFA) are preferred.
  2. 5-7 years of experience in finance or accounting roles, ideally within a nonprofit or academic setting.
  3. Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Excel; familiarity with QuickBooks or similar platforms is advantageous.
  4. Strong analytical capabilities with a keen attention to detail and accuracy.
  5. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  6. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  7. Excellent organizational skills with the capacity to prioritize effectively.
