Position Overview:

This role is designed to support and contribute to project research and proposal development, focusing on transportation data, technology, and planning. The incumbent will utilize, adapt, and refine scientific methods and techniques to independently conceive, design, and implement state DOT program activities, research projects, and applied technology transfer challenges. Responsibilities include ensuring timely project completion within budget while adhering to safety practices and guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

This position encompasses various aspects of transportation planning, programming, and project development. It requires familiarity with state and federal transportation funding and finance policies. Key duties include:
  • Conducting applied research, including data collection, analysis, and coordination of research projects.
  • Preparing detailed reports and technical documentation for various stakeholders.
  • Actively pursuing externally funded research projects and participating in proposal development.
  • Delivering presentations to sponsors and at academic or conference settings.
  • Assisting decision-makers in shaping transportation public policy through research and analysis.
  • Engaging with sponsors and clients to support technical work and collaboration.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education:
  • Master's Degree in a relevant field such as Urban/Regional Planning, Civil Engineering, or Economics.
Experience:
  • Three (3) years of directly related work experience.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Proficiency in data analysis and visualization.
  • Understanding of transportation planning and regulatory frameworks in the U.S.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and statistical software (e.g., SPSS, SAS, R).
  • Strong data visualization skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Engineering, Planning, or a related field.
  • Experience in data modeling, database design, and GIS.
