Key Information
  • The selected candidate must be prepared to report to the TTI Austin office, with a hybrid remote option available for discussion during the interview.
  • The salary for this position is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Position Overview:

This role is designated for an individual whose achievements are recognized beyond their immediate peers. The incumbent will be acknowledged by key stakeholders as integral to their mission and will play a significant role in securing research funding and identifying new contract opportunities. Responsibilities include overseeing the design, coordination, supervision, evaluation, and quality control of substantial research projects. The incumbent is expected to lead self-initiated research, develop new initiatives, contribute to strategic research objectives, and guide junior research staff. Continuation in this role is contingent upon the availability of funding from research programs or specific projects.

Core Responsibilities:

This position encompasses transportation planning, programming, and project development. It requires familiarity with state and federal transportation funding and finance policies. Research outputs will be applicable to federal, state, and metropolitan contexts.
  • Applied Research Management: Oversee the direction and management of a work program, including daily supervision, planning, administration, evaluation, and implementation of research functions. Responsibilities include project management, data collection, analysis, and coordination. Must demonstrate the ability to manage multiple projects as the principal investigator, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and sponsor expectations.
  • Report Preparation: Compile and present results in formats suitable for reports, technical memoranda, and presentations. Prepare technical documentation, including literature reviews and data analyses.
  • Project Leadership: Provide oversight for self-initiated projects and contribute to the authorship of reports based on original research.
  • Funding Acquisition: Actively pursue and secure externally funded research projects, engaging in proposal development.
  • Team Coordination: Assist in the overall management of the division's research functions, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality project outcomes.
  • Research Presentations: Prepare and deliver presentations to sponsors and at academic or conference settings.
  • Policy Support: Aid decision-makers in formulating transportation public policy through research and analysis of ongoing policies.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Interact with sponsors and potential clients, supporting technical work through participation in committees and meetings.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in a relevant field such as Urban/Regional Planning, Civil Engineering, or Economics.
  • Eight (8) years of directly related experience.
Essential Skills:
  • One (1) publication in peer-reviewed journals or two (2) major technical reports.
  • Experience in developing research proposals and securing funding.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and visualization.
  • Knowledge of transportation planning and regulatory frameworks in the U.S.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent verbal, technical writing, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and statistical software.
  • Strong skills in data visualization and statistical analysis.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Engineering, Planning, or a related field.
  • Nine (9) years of directly related experience.
  • Experience in data modeling, database design, and GIS.
