Position Overview

The selected candidate will be expected to assist in project research and proposal development, focusing on transportation data, technology, and planning. Responsibilities include utilizing and adapting scientific methods for the design and execution of state DOT program activities, research projects, and applied technology transfer challenges. The incumbent will ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and with all deliverables met while adhering to safety practices and quality research principles. Continuation in this role is dependent on the availability of funding from research programs or specific projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct applied research activities including data collection, analysis, coordination, and supervision. Plan and report on detailed research projects based on public interagency agreements. Evaluate data collection requirements and document activities. 30%
  • Prepare reports: Compile and present results in required formats for reports, technical memoranda, and presentations. 20%
  • Seek and secure externally funded research projects, contributing to both basic and applied technology challenges. 10%
  • Deliver research presentations to sponsors and at academic or conference settings. 10%
  • Assist policymakers at various levels in shaping transportation public policy through research and innovation. 10%
  • Engage with sponsors and potential clients to support technical work and engagement functions. 10%
  • Perform other assigned duties. 10%
Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in a relevant field such as Urban/Regional Planning, Civil Engineering, or Economics.
  • Three (3) years of relevant work experience.
Required Skills:
  • Experience in data analysis and visualization.
  • Knowledge of transportation planning and regulatory frameworks in the U.S.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and statistical software (e.g., SPSS, SAS, R).
  • Strong data visualization skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Engineering, Planning, or a related field.
  • Experience in data modeling, database design, and GIS.
