About the Role

The Director of Operations and Sustainability is a key member of the Oak Park Elementary School District 97 team, responsible for overseeing the maintenance and upkeep of our facilities. This role requires a strong understanding of sustainability practices and the ability to lead a team in implementing energy-efficient solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate building cleaning and maintenance projects with building engineers to ensure efficient and timely completion.
  • Tour facilities regularly to inspect custodial and building engineer work and assess site safety.
  • Utilize cleaning and facility operational standards to organize and schedule maintenance tasks.
  • Support personnel to maximize workforce efficiency and meet varying shift requirements.
  • Direct and supervise the substitute custodial program and assign subs as needed.
  • Respond to emergencies during and after hours to resolve immediate safety concerns.
  • Manage procedures for receiving, routing, and recording materials and supplies delivered to facilities.
  • Coordinate the custodial supply bidding process and maintain supplies and equipment that conform to district and community sustainability guidelines.
  • Schedule staff to cover events and building rentals in School Dude.
  • Collaborate with local governing bodies and initiatives to create efficiencies and develop collaborative projects and strategies.
  • Facilitate and participate in meetings, workshops, and seminars for sustainability, energy conservation, and reducing our carbon footprint.
  • Research and support grant proposal development and submissions to secure grants that support sustainability outcome achievement.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders to communicate with parents and students, involving them in sustainability education and goal attainment.
  • Bring leading-edge knowledge and best practices to respective school leadership and attend mandatory Board of Education and committee meetings.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. Post-secondary education is preferred.
  • Job-related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is desired.
  • Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would qualify.
  • Previous experience in building maintenance and cleaning regimens is desirable.
  • Ability to work at heights on ladders and automatic lifts.
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals and solvents contaminated trash, grasses, pollens, etc.
  • Ability to stand, bend, reach high and low, stoop, and walk around up to 85% of the day.
  • Frequent walking up and down stairs, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling.
  • Must lift 15 to 50 pounds and push and pull 15 to 50 lbs.
