Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Health and Wellness Coordinator to join our team at the YMCA of Central Massachusetts. The successful candidate will be responsible for promoting, supervising, and evaluating the wellness center and personal training programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and manage the wellness department, including staff, programs, and budget responsibilities.
  • Direct supervision of group exercise instructors and wellness floor staff to ensure adequate staffing.
  • Recruit, interview, hire, train, schedule, coach, supervise, recognize, and terminate wellness staff under the direction of the Senior Experience Director.
  • Ensure group exercise instructors meet minimum education, certification, and continuing education requirements.
  • Oversee the general management, cleanliness, and upkeep of group exercise and spinning studios, wellness center, and related equipment.
  • Order and record inventory for operating supplies.
  • Develop and market health and fitness programming, including brochures, incentive programs, bulletin boards, email newsletters, etc.
  • Execute wellness staff meetings and continuing education programs for personal trainers and wellness floor staff.
  • Teach or lead classes in the wellness department and have scheduled hours covering the wellness department at least 15 hours per week.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required; 2-year degree in Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation, or health-related field preferred.
  • Minimum of four or more years of experience working in a wellness center or recreation facility, with preference working at another YMCA or nonprofit agency.
  • Requires training, certifications, or experience with group exercise, program development, and fitness equipment.
  • Able to direct programs and supervise staff and volunteers, develop budgets, market, and fundraise.
  • Requires knowledge of computer software applications and hardware, with a working knowledge of Windows Office Suite.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with diverse populations preferred.
Work Environment

Hours may vary, but typically include Monday-Friday 9:00am-5:30pm, with occasional weekends and evening shifts. Pay is $18.00 per hour, with a full benefit package including PTO, access to YMCA facilities, medical, dental, disability, life, vision, and pet insurance, and participation in a 403B retirement savings plan.
