POSITION SUMMARY:

The Garnishment Processing Specialist plays a crucial role within our Payroll Operations team, contributing to the success of BBSI's branches and internal departments. The primary focus of this role is to efficiently manage and respond to garnishment orders while offering support and information to employees and internal teams regarding garnishments and payroll-related matters. This position is essential for ensuring compliant and effective processing of garnishments for a substantial employee base in collaboration with branch payroll teams.

REPORTING STRUCTURE: This role reports directly to the Payroll Operations Manager and collaborates closely with various operational roles, providing direct assistance and accountability to field teams.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage the complete cycle of garnishment processing, including mail intake, order entry, and responding to court-ordered wage garnishments such as child support, student loans, bankruptcy orders, and tax levies.
  • Utilize multiple systems to investigate and address inquiries from employees, courts, and government agencies regarding garnishment orders.
  • Offer guidance and support to payroll personnel across the country on garnishment processes, complex issues, and system-related inquiries.
  • Collaborate with team members to innovate and enhance processes, ensuring compliance while improving efficiency.
  • Guarantee timely and accurate processing of garnishment payments through checks and/or electronic funds transfer (EFT).
  • Participate in cross-training within Payroll Operations to provide a comprehensive range of support to the team.
  • Conduct data entry and maintain files, including assisting with new hire and termination reporting.
  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Familiarity with various types of garnishments and knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations related to garnishments. A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience is preferred.
  • Understanding of basic payroll processing procedures, with experience in multi-state payroll being advantageous.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to follow complex written and verbal instructions.
  • Comfortable navigating multiple systems and programs simultaneously; proficiency in MS Excel is a plus.
  • Previous experience in a Professional Employer Organization (PEO) or third-party payroll setting is a bonus.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is an asset.
