POSITION OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Director of Finance and Accounting, the Accounting Manager is crucial in overseeing financial reporting and compliance throughout the grant lifecycle, as well as managing finance and accounting operations. This role encompasses various financial functions, including the establishment and oversight of financial systems, development of policies and procedures, processing and recording receivables, leading budget formulation and analysis, executing allocations, and assisting in the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements, audits, and tax filings. The Accounting Manager will have the chance to identify opportunities for enhancing efficiencies and proactively address the needs of other departments and regions. This individual will analyze current processes and systems, collaborating closely with the Director of Finance and Accounting and operational staff to optimize existing systems, leverage technology, and create standard operating procedures that maximize benefits for LIFT's staff and partners.

This position presents an exceptional opportunity for a proactive finance professional with a proven history of innovative problem-solving and enhancing infrastructure within a dynamic nonprofit environment.

Travel Requirements: One to two days in the office per week, with potential adjustments, and participation in LIFT's annual All Staff Retreat and Finance & Operations meeting.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Grant Financial Management and Compliance
    • Oversee financial components of all grants, ensuring adherence to regulations and grant conditions.
    • Collaborate with program managers and grant writers to develop budgets for grant proposals.
    • Monitor grant spending and revenue to ensure alignment with approved budgets.
    • Provide regular financial updates to grantors and program managers.
    • Stay updated on grant regulations and reporting requirements.
    • Prepare and evaluate indirect cost rate proposals in line with grant regulations.
    • Ensure compliance with grant standards, including allowable costs and reporting deadlines.
    • Train staff on grant financial management and compliance matters.
    • Coordinate with auditors during reviews, providing necessary documentation.
  • Finance and Accounting Operations
    • Ensure policies comply with accounting standards and maintain a robust internal control system.
    • Support annual audits and tax filing preparations.
    • Assist in constructing the annual budget in collaboration with the Director of Finance.
    • Record and monitor accounts receivable, coordinating with the development team for timely contributions.
    • Support month-end and annual closing processes, maintaining accurate financial records.
    • Distribute financial reports as necessary.
  • Communication & Customer Service
    • Communicate finance priorities to the broader team and foster collaboration.
    • Collaborate with the National Finance and Operations team.
    • Provide excellent service to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Systems Improvement
    • Maximize the use of existing financial management systems.
    • Manage integration efforts for financial and related systems to enhance efficiency.
    • Create internal systems for organizing team workflows.
    • Identify system needs and propose effective solutions.

  • 4+ years of experience in nonprofit accounting and financial processes.
  • 2+ years of management experience preferred.
