The Project Superintendent plays a crucial role in overseeing all construction activities on-site and managing subcontractor personnel from the initiation of the project until final approval by the client. This position serves as a key point of contact between the client, architect, and subcontractor/vendor representatives associated with the project. The Superintendent acts as a representative of H. J. High Construction, addressing construction-related issues, collaborating with the Project Manager, supervising project staff, and managing all tasks related to submittals, documentation, and scheduling.
Physical Requirements: The role requires the ability to bend, stoop, sit, stand, walk, climb ladders and scaffolding, reach, lift, pull, push, balance, crouch, crawl, kneel, and carry weights up to 75 pounds. The individual may encounter various environmental conditions, including exposure to chemicals, respiratory hazards, and extreme temperatures. The noise level may vary from moderate to loud.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain a professional demeanor that reflects positively on H. J. High Construction.
- Collaborate with the Project Manager to develop, manage, and update the short-term project schedule until project completion.
- Oversee, coordinate, and assess all on-site operations.
- Enforce company-wide safety protocols for employees, subcontractors, and visitors.
- Ensure adherence to OSHA regulations.
- Verify that all work complies with contract specifications, approved submittals, and H. J. High's quality standards.
- Manage and execute the punch list within the required contract timeframe.
- Implement project objectives, policies, procedures, and performance standards in line with corporate policies, including safety management.
- Control and oversee the construction process to ensure alignment with design, budget, and schedule.
- Engage with client representatives, architectural/engineering representatives, other contractors, and local building authorities.
- Support the Project Manager and Project Administrator with administrative tasks and coordination as needed.
- Participate in and facilitate weekly coordination meetings with all project stakeholders.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by company leadership.
- This position may involve travel as required.
- Become proficient with all company software and technology to ensure effective implementation.
Qualifications and Skills:
- At least 10 years of experience in commercial construction supervision.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Capability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, specifications, and subcontract agreements. Familiarity with Procore and Bluebeam is advantageous.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills are essential. Professional behavior in a business setting is crucial, and conflict resolution skills are beneficial.
- Willingness to travel as necessary.
- Ability to work under pressure and coordinate multiple activities and groups to achieve optimal efficiency.
