The Project Superintendent is accountable for overseeing all on-site construction operations and managing subcontractor personnel from the initiation of the project until final client approval. This role serves as a key point of contact with clients, architects, and subcontractor/vendor representatives regarding project matters. The Project Superintendent acts as a representative of H. J. High Construction in addressing construction challenges, collaborating with the Project Manager, supervising project staff, and managing all tasks related to submittals, documentation, and scheduling. This position holds direct responsibility for the timely execution and quality of work while ensuring adherence to corporate safety policies.
Physical Requirements: The role necessitates the ability to bend, stoop, sit, stand, walk, climb scaffolding and ladders, reach, lift, pull, push, balance, crouch, crawl, kneel, and lift or carry weights up to 75 pounds. Exposure to various environmental conditions, chemical hazards, respiratory risks, and temperature extremes may occur. The noise level in the work environment may vary from moderate to loud.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain a professional demeanor that positively reflects H. J. High Construction.
- Collaborate with the project manager to develop, implement, and update the short-term project schedule until project completion.
- Oversee, coordinate, direct, and assess all on-site activities.
- Enforce company-wide safety regulations for employees, subcontractors, and visitors.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations.
- Verify that work aligns with contract documents, approved submittals, and H. J. High's quality standards.
- Manage and administer the punch list within contract timeframes.
- Implement project objectives, policies, procedures, and performance standards in line with corporate policy, including safety management.
- Control and oversee the construction process to ensure alignment with design, budget, and schedule.
- Engage with client representatives, A/E representatives, other contractors, and local building and permitting authorities.
- Monitor and support construction activities through administrative collaboration with the Project Manager and Project Administrator as needed.
- Participate in and support weekly coordination meetings with all project stakeholders.
- Execute additional tasks as assigned by company leadership.
- This position is based in Central Florida and may require occasional travel.
- Become familiar with all company software and technology for effective implementation.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in commercial construction supervision.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, shop drawings, specifications, and subcontract agreements. Familiarity with Procore and Bluebeam is advantageous.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills are essential. Professional behavior in a business setting is critical. Conflict resolution skills are beneficial.
- Willingness to travel as required.
- Ability to work under pressure and coordinate multiple activities and groups to achieve optimal efficiency.
