Land Surveying Technician

Position Summary: Under the general oversight of the County Surveyor, the Survey Technician engages in technical tasks, including field evaluations, land assessments, and research to support infrastructure maintenance initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assists in conducting field surveys and provides horizontal and vertical control data.
- Collects and updates field data utilizing Trimble Business Center.
- Performs site checks and staking for construction endeavors.
- Investigates easements, documentation, and landowner details.
- Responds to inquiries for maps and records.
- Supports inspections for paving and construction projects.
- Communicates effectively with contractors regarding ongoing construction activities.
- Maintains detailed daily logs of construction operations.
- Ensures survey vehicle is equipped with necessary tools for daily tasks.
- Maintains vehicles and equipment in good condition; reports any damages or issues promptly.
- Adheres to all traffic laws and safety protocols on roadways and job sites, reporting any safety hazards or traffic concerns.
- Executes tasks as directed by the Staff Surveyor.
- Upholds confidentiality of non-public records while making available all data classified as public records by relevant legislation.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D AND one (1) year of experience in surveying or transportation construction; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Must possess a valid North Dakota Driver's License or equivalent.
- Must successfully pass a background check and pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
Working Conditions:
- Work is conducted in both office settings and outdoor environments, with exposure to extreme weather conditions.
- Some tasks are performed on construction sites, with exposure to uneven terrain, loud noises, chemicals, and heavy machinery.
- Must be capable of lifting and carrying up to 50lbs.
Compensation: The salary for this position ranges from $28.56 to $32.64 per hour, based on experience and training. Williams County offers a comprehensive benefits package for full-time employees, including paid sick and vacation leave, a fully covered health/dental/vision plan for employees and their dependents, term life insurance of $25,000, full contribution towards retirement benefits through the ND Public Employees Retirement System, and 11 paid holidays annually.
