Your New Role...

We are CNN, recognized as the world's most vital and captivating source of digital news. As we navigate through a period of significant transformation, we seek forward-thinking leaders who can spearhead our growth initiatives. The Senior Vice President of Innovative Ventures will play a pivotal role in the development of new, independent products at CNN. This individual will establish a dedicated team focused on crafting distinct, non-news experiences that enhance our users' lives and bolster our subscription model. The ideal candidate will possess extensive expertise in launching new products from concept to execution, with a strong emphasis on subscription-based business models, collaboration with editorial teams, and strategic leadership within a media or digital landscape. Proven experience in building and managing high-performing teams, along with a track record of driving growth and achieving ambitious business objectives, is essential.

Your Responsibilities...
  • Formulate and implement comprehensive strategies for new products and business initiatives that align with our strategic objectives, ultimately driving user engagement and revenue growth.
  • Collaborate with various internal departments, including commercial, editorial, technical, and marketing teams, to ensure a unified approach to strategy and execution.
  • Oversee a user-centered design process to develop a suite of standalone products that leverage CNN's strengths and market opportunities; establish a structured approach to product development with clear evaluation criteria to mitigate risks and validate user needs.
  • Engage closely with editorial partners to ensure that our new products resonate with users and fulfill their needs.
  • Recruit, mentor, and lead a dynamic team that embraces creativity and ambition.
  • Provide regular updates to senior leadership regarding progress, challenges, and strategic plans for both new and existing business lines.
  • Monetize the developed products through diverse revenue streams, with a primary focus on subscriptions.
  • Forge and maintain strategic partnerships that enhance CNN's business capabilities and competitive positioning.
  • Act as a key operational partner for M&A opportunities, integrating external products into our portfolio.
  • Work closely with strategy and finance teams to ensure the financial viability of business initiatives, developing models to accurately assess opportunities and align with overall revenue targets.
Qualifications & Experience...
  • Leadership: A minimum of 10 years of experience in leading product innovation, with a proven ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization and to executive leadership.
  • Editorial Collaboration: Demonstrated experience in partnering with editorial teams to align product features with user needs.
  • Product Strategy: Proven track record in developing 0-1 products that captivate users and foster habitual engagement.
  • Business Development: A history of successfully launching and scaling new business ventures, with a deep understanding of the media landscape.
  • Strategic Vision: Experience in crafting and executing a comprehensive product strategy that balances ambitious goals with practical execution.
  • Team Management: Over 7 years of experience in people management, fostering an inclusive environment and motivating teams to excel.
  • Results Orientation: Experience managing complex projects and delivering outcomes on schedule, with a focus on impactful results.
