Safety and Training Operations Manager

OVERVIEW

The Safety and Training Operations Manager for the Baggage Handling System is tasked with the development, execution, and supervision of training initiatives and safety measures for baggage handling systems in an airport environment. This role is pivotal in establishing, enhancing, and facilitating training programs to ensure all personnel are proficiently trained and compliant with airline and regulatory training standards. The position is dedicated to maintaining safety benchmarks, addressing issues, and investigating incidents to avert accidents and enhance operational efficiency.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Crafting training documentation and manuals that align with the latest industry standards and regulatory mandates.
  • Revising training content to incorporate advancements in technology, procedures, and regulations.
  • Designing and executing extensive training programs for baggage handling personnel.
  • Formulating and enforcing safety protocols and procedures for baggage handling operations.
  • Conducting routine safety audits and inspections to ensure adherence to safety regulations for airport facilities and equipment.
  • Investigating accidents or incidents related to baggage handling and implementing corrective measures.
  • Ensuring compliance with all pertinent local, state, and federal regulations as well as customer standards regarding baggage handling and safety.
  • Preparing and submitting regular reports on training activities, safety audits, and incident investigations.
  • Maintaining precise records of all training and safety-related activities.
  • Promoting a culture of safety and continuous improvement within the team.
  • Conducting root cause analyses to mitigate and, in some cases, eliminate safety violations.
  • Identifying and evaluating safety hazards and risks in airport operations.
  • Collaborating with airport management and staff to address safety issues.
  • Preparing and presenting safety reports to senior management and regulatory bodies.
  • Monitoring safety performance metrics and reporting on trends and improvements.
  • Staying updated on industry best practices and advancements in safety.
  • May be assigned additional duties as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Eligible to work in the United States.
  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • OSHA 10 or 30 Certification is required.
  • Experience with Lockout Tagout Systems is essential.
  • A valid driver's license is mandatory.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, including Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is advantageous.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend the English language, including documents.
  • Must pass a background check and drug screening.
  • Proficient in using electronic devices such as iPads/Tablets, computers, and mobile devices.
  • Exceptional communication and training facilitation skills, comfortable speaking in group settings.
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Capable of thriving in a fast-paced environment and managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Eligibility to obtain necessary credentials and clearances (FAA, TSA, Port Authority, U.S. Customs, and U.S. Postal, as applicable).
  • Availability to work any day or shift, including holidays, within a 24/7 operational framework.
  • Possess the adaptability, flexibility, and willingness to work with frequently changing priorities.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY/WORKING CONDITIONS MAY INCLUDE:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, occasionally up to 100 pounds.
  • Prolonged standing and walking in various environments.
  • Ability to push and pull as required.
  • Capability to reach with arms and grasp with hands.
  • Ability to climb and work at elevated heights.
  • Must be able to bend, stretch, squat, and kneel.
  • Ability to crawl and crouch in confined spaces when necessary.
  • Work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Move large equipment as needed.
  • Hand/eye coordination is essential.
  • Exposure to varying climates and moderate to high noise levels.
  • Ability to hear and respond to spoken communication and audible alarms.
  • Tasks may involve repetitive motions of the arms, wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Specific vision abilities required for this role include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Compensation:

The salary range for this position is between $85,000 and $90,000, reflecting the company's expectations based on qualifications, skills, competencies, education, and experience.
