Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Nuclear Engineer to join our team at the Department of Energy. As a Senior Naval Reactors Representative, you will be responsible for leading the planning, direction, and implementation of joint Department of Energy and Department of Navy technical programs at the Portsmouth shipyard area.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical guidance and direction to reactor plant prime contractor resident technical experts assigned at the shipyard.
  • Plan and direct the efforts of an engineering and administrative staff that evaluates prime contractor performance in conducting DOE and DON technical programs.
  • Review prime contractor manning levels, personnel ceilings, and personnel utilization to ensure effective management of personnel resources.
  • Plan and direct a program for independent technical surveillance of naval nuclear work for conformance with program technical directives.
  • Evaluate prime contractor performance in complying with government regulations involving security, radiological controls, and other administrative functions.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • At least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance.
  • Current registration as a Professional Engineer by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.
  • Extensive knowledge of advanced principles of nuclear engineering.
  • Knowledge of application of nuclear propulsion to the design, construction, repair, maintenance, modernization, testing, and operation of naval nuclear reactor plants.
  • Knowledge of nuclear safety regulations, practices, and procedures to ensure health and safety.
Working Conditions

This position requires a high level of technical expertise and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. The selected candidate will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final DOE Q level security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
