Position Overview

The Surgical Support Technician is responsible for a variety of tasks essential to maintaining the operating and procedure rooms. Key responsibilities include restocking supplies, cleaning medical equipment, and assisting with tasks as per the Room turnover PIT Stop Model.

This role also involves assisting registered nurses with patient transfers, positioning, and preparation, as well as setting up operating rooms with the necessary equipment and beds tailored to patient needs. Additionally, the technician will transport patients and specimens as required.

Clerical Responsibilities:
This position includes some clerical duties such as answering calls, delivering messages, and checking emails. Availability for emergency on-call duties is also required.

Compensation
Minimum $28.00 Midpoint $28.00 Maximum $29.00


Compensation is influenced by various factors, including knowledge, skills, competencies, experience, education, and specific position requirements.

Qualifications

  • Required: A minimum of one (1) year of experience in a hospital environment.
  • Preferred: One (1) year of experience in a surgical setting, particularly with pediatric patient transportation.
Education Requirements

  • Required: High School Diploma or GED.
Training

  • Required: No specific training required.
Essential Skills

  • Required: Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively; collaborative mindset; adaptability to changes in workload; excellent communication abilities.
  • Preferred: Bilingual in English and Spanish.
Licensure Requirements

  • Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Physical Demands:
This role requires a high energy level with the ability to lift over 50 lbs, carry 80 lbs for 30 feet, and push/pull over 200 lbs (e.g., patients on beds or stretchers).

Physical Activity:
Involves bending, carrying objects, climbing, repetitive motions, and various other physical activities.

Sensory Requirements:
Includes color discrimination, depth perception, and both near and far vision.

Work Environment:
Exposure to airborne communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, and other environmental factors.
