The Operating Room Technician is entrusted with the essential duties of preparing surgical environments for procedures. This role involves executing a variety of technical tasks to assist in surgical operations, while adhering to established departmental protocols, objectives, and safety regulations. The technician is responsible for ensuring that all necessary equipment is available and ready for surgical cases. Collaboration with other team members is crucial to meet departmental goals, and strict adherence to infection control measures is required.
Key responsibilities include maintaining aseptic techniques, actively monitoring for potential breaches in sterile conditions, and ensuring accurate counts of instruments, sutures, and sponges. The technician also provides emotional support and comfort to patients prior to surgery, respecting their privacy and care needs. Additionally, the role involves identifying and managing specimens, reporting any equipment issues, and assisting in the cleaning of operating rooms. The technician may handle biological materials and is responsible for the comprehensive care of patients across all age groups. This position operates under the supervision of the Technical Coordinator and reports to the Manager/Director of Perioperative Services.
Qualifications:
- Prior experience as a Surgical Technician is required.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is mandatory.
- Completion of a surgical technician training program is preferred.
- Proficiency in the English language, both verbal and written, is essential.
- Physical capability to perform heavy lifting and possess perceptive acuity (e.g., visual, auditory) to effectively carry out assigned responsibilities.
