Position Overview
The Surgical Support Technician plays a crucial role in maintaining the operating room and procedure areas. Key responsibilities include restocking supplies, cleaning medical equipment, and assisting with tasks as outlined in the Room turnover PIT Stop Model.
This role also involves assisting registered nurses with patient transfers, positioning, and preparation. Responsibilities include setting up operating rooms with necessary equipment and beds tailored to patient age and needs, as well as transporting patients and specimens as required. Support to Core technicians may also be needed.Clerical Responsibilities:
This position includes answering calls, delivering messages, and checking emails. Availability for emergency on-call duties is required.
Compensation
Minimum $28.00 Midpoint $28.00 Maximum $29.00
Pay rates are influenced by various factors, including knowledge, skills, competencies, experience, education, and specific position requirements.
- Required: At least one (1) year of experience in a hospital environment.
- Preferred: One (1) year of experience in a surgical setting, particularly with pediatric patient transportation and in a Pediatric Surgical environment.
- Required: High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
- Required: No specific training required.
- Required: Strong ability to prioritize and complete tasks efficiently; capability to collaborate positively with others; flexibility and creativity in response to changing workloads or staffing. Excellent communication skills are essential.
- Preferred: Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.
- Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Heavy lifting and high energy levels are necessary, including lifting over 50 lbs, carrying 80 lbs over a distance of 30 feet, and pushing/pulling over 200 lbs (e.g., patients on beds or stretchers).
Physical Activity Requirements:
Includes bending, carrying objects, climbing, repetitive keyboard use, fine motor activities, pushing/pulling, reaching, sitting, standing, and walking.
Environmental Considerations:
Exposure to airborne communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, dust, extreme noise levels, and temperature variations.
