Position Overview:

The primary responsibility of a Marine Cargo Specialist is to facilitate the preparation and execution of loading and unloading operations for various liquid cargoes, including oil and petrochemicals. This role requires effective communication with dock staff to ensure that all personnel involved in the transfer process are well-informed about the nature of the cargo and the necessary precautions for safe handling.

Key Responsibilities:

Daily Physical Activity:

  • Engage in walking approximately 2-3 miles each day to inspect the condition of the vessels and associated equipment.

Mobility Requirements:

  • Ability to navigate between barges and docks, which may involve stepping across varying heights and overcoming obstacles.

Reaching and Climbing:

  • Must possess the capability to reach overhead and climb vertical ladders up to 30 feet to access different levels of the barges.

Weight Handling:

  • Lift and transport items weighing between 60-75 pounds over distances of up to 500 feet, such as equipment necessary for cargo operations.

Vision and Hearing:

  • Must have adequate vision to meet regulatory standards and the ability to hear communications clearly, essential for safety and coordination.

Communication Skills:

  • Effective verbal communication in English is required, particularly for using radios and coordinating with dock personnel.

Literacy:

  • Ability to read and write in English for documentation and safety compliance.

Safety Awareness:

  • Possess a keen sense of smell to detect hazardous vapors and ensure a safe working environment.

Health Requirements:

  • Must pass a pulmonary function test and meet physical examination standards as required by company policy.

General Work Environment:

  • Ability to work in various weather conditions and endure long hours during cargo transfers while wearing necessary protective equipment.

Mental and Emotional Resilience:

  • Ability to work in close quarters and manage the emotional demands of being away from home for extended periods.

Qualifications:

Licensing: A valid Tankerman's License is mandatory for this position.

Training: Completion of company-approved training programs is required.

Regulatory Compliance: Must adhere to all relevant safety and drug testing regulations as mandated by maritime authorities.

Physical and Mental Capabilities: Essential to perform the duties of this role safely and effectively.
