GPU Energy Modeling and Analysis Engineer

Overview: At Apple Inc., we are dedicated to crafting innovative solutions for complex technological challenges. As a member of our Silicon Technologies team, you will play a pivotal role in designing and producing our next-generation, high-performance, power-efficient processors and system-on-chip (SoC) solutions. Your contributions will ensure that Apple products and services can effortlessly perform the tasks that endear them to millions of users.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Develop micro-architectural energy models to facilitate early power estimations, conduct what-if analyses, and evaluate performance per watt trade-offs.
  • Analyze power consumption patterns across the GPU, identifying opportunities for energy reduction.
  • Collaborate with driver, compiler, application engineers, architects, micro-architects, and designers to implement power reduction strategies for high-value workloads through software enhancements or architectural improvements.
  • Create tools for measuring, visualizing, and analyzing GPU energy consumption and identifying reduction opportunities.
  • Conduct targeted studies to prototype solutions aimed at enhancing the architecture and micro-architecture of future GPUs to minimize power usage.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of computer architecture.
  • Experience in exploring energy reduction strategies across the hardware/software spectrum and leading studies on their performance, power, and area (PPA) trade-offs.
  • Proficient in data mining and analyzing energy consumption across diverse workloads to discern trends and pinpoint high-return opportunities for investigation.
  • Familiarity with low-power ASIC design principles.
  • Strong programming skills in Python or similar scripting languages.
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau or Splunk is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team and maintain productivity under tight deadlines.
  • Exceptional communication skills, self-motivated, and well-organized.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education & Experience: Candidates should possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of relevant experience.

Additional Information: At Apple, the base salary is just one component of our comprehensive compensation package, which is determined within a specified range. This allows for career progression as you grow within your role. The salary range for this position is between $143,100 and $264,200, influenced by your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
