Energy Optimization Engineer for GPU Technologies

Role Overview

As an Energy Optimization Engineer, you will:

  • Develop micro-architectural energy models for preliminary power assessments, scenario analyses, performance-per-watt evaluations, and power target definitions.
  • Examine and provide insights into power consumption across the GPU, identifying opportunities for energy reduction.
  • Implement and advocate for power reduction strategies across the entire technology stack, collaborating with driver, compiler, application engineers, architects, micro-architects, and designers to optimize power consumption of high-value workloads through software enhancements or architectural improvements.
  • Create tools for measuring, visualizing, and analyzing GPU energy usage and identifying avenues for power reduction.
  • Conduct targeted studies to prototype solutions aimed at enhancing the architecture and micro-architecture of next-generation GPUs to minimize power consumption.

Minimum Qualifications

Key Qualifications

  • In-depth knowledge of computer architecture.
  • Experience in exploring energy reduction strategies across the hardware/software spectrum and leading focused studies on their performance, power, and area trade-offs.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and energy consumption evaluation across a diverse range of workloads to discern trends and pinpoint high-return opportunities for investigation.
  • Familiarity with low-power ASIC design principles.
  • Strong programming skills in Python or similar scripting languages.
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau and/or Splunk is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team and maintain productivity under tight deadlines.
  • Exceptional communication skills, self-driven, and well-organized.

Preferred Qualifications

Education & Experience

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree with 10 years of relevant experience is preferred.

Compensation & Benefits

At Apple, base salary is one component of our comprehensive compensation package, determined within a defined range. This structure allows for growth as you advance in your role. The base salary range for this position is between $143,100 and $264,200, with actual salary depending on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Apple employees have the opportunity to become shareholders through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs. Additionally, employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards and can purchase Apple stock at a discount through the Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Benefits include comprehensive medical and dental coverage, retirement plans, a variety of discounted products and services, and reimbursement for certain educational expenses related to career advancement at Apple. This role may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses or commission payments, as well as relocation assistance.
