Position Overview
The Behavior Support Technician (BST) is a dedicated paraprofessional who operates under the close supervision of a Teacher and Program Administrator within the Specialized Education Program for Exceptional Children. This role may also extend to home-based settings.

Responsibilities
The supervising Teacher or Behavior Interventionist is accountable for the activities undertaken by the BST. The individual in this role will assist in the instruction of social, emotional, and behavioral skills, as well as implement behavior modification strategies grounded in the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis.

The BST will engage in data collection, facilitate parent training sessions, and directly execute behavior intervention plans. Candidates for this position are expected to fulfill the prerequisites for a paraprofessional role and commit to completing the necessary training to achieve certification.

Key Duties Include:

  • Implementing specific behavior intervention strategies as directed by the supervising Teacher or Behavior Interventionist.
  • Utilizing data and reports to enhance student behavioral outcomes.
  • Collecting data related to student responses to interventions.
  • Assisting in the preparation of educational and data collection materials.
  • Supporting functional behavioral assessments and skill acquisition plans.
  • Preparing relevant materials for educational services.
  • Providing individual or small group support to reinforce learning objectives.
  • Managing student behaviors to ensure a safe environment for all.
  • Collaborating with teachers and staff to address behavioral challenges.
  • Assisting with academic instruction and classroom activities.
  • Monitoring student engagement in academic or social skills activities.
  • Implementing students' Behavior Intervention Plans as assigned.

Administrative Support
The BST will also perform clerical tasks such as data entry, sorting, filing, and maintaining accurate records as required by program administration. Participation in training sessions, meetings, and professional development opportunities is expected.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must pass the required assessment within the first year of employment.
  • Ability to obtain necessary certification within the first year.
  • 0-2 years of relevant experience preferred; 3-5 years is advantageous.

Skills and Abilities
Candidates should possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and demonstrate the ability to work effectively with children. Organizational skills, flexibility, and proficiency with technology are essential.

Working Environment
This position may involve working in classroom settings and home environments, requiring physical capabilities to manage student behaviors safely.
