The Proton Therapy Radiation Specialist plays a crucial role in delivering advanced cancer treatment. This full-time position operates on an 80-hour pay period schedule with day shifts.

Covenant Health (Tennessee) is dedicated to providing one of the most sophisticated forms of radiation therapy available, focusing on proton therapy that precisely targets tumors while minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissue.

Position Summary:

Under the guidance of the Lead Therapist, Medical Physicist, and Radiation Oncologist, the specialist administers therapeutic radiation to patients across all age groups. The role emphasizes fostering positive interactions with patients, their families, and medical staff, ensuring a high standard of patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accurately position patients for treatment using prescribed devices.
  • Administer prescribed radiation doses to designated body areas, adhering to established protocols.
  • Regularly inspect radiation therapy equipment to confirm proper functionality.
  • Prepare and assemble necessary treatment and immobilization devices.
  • Review patient prescriptions, diagnoses, and identification thoroughly.
  • Educate and support patients and families, addressing inquiries and providing guidance on treatment and aftercare.
  • Input patient data into systems and adjust equipment settings as needed.
  • Monitor patients during and post-treatment, reporting any unusual reactions to the physician.
  • Adhere to radiation safety principles for the protection of patients and staff.
  • Maintain accurate records of treatment dosages, equipment settings, and patient responses.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently, prioritizing tasks effectively.
  • Manage treatment schedules and communicate any changes to patients promptly.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and patient-related issues as they arise.
  • Provide training and oversight to new staff and students in the department.
  • Follow infection control and safety guidelines rigorously.
  • Communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, to ensure clear information exchange.
  • Adhere to organizational policies and participate in quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications:

Minimum Education: No specific educational requirements; however, candidates must meet the necessary standards for licensure and certification.

Minimum Experience: Entry-level position.

Licensure Requirement: Candidates must obtain and maintain ARRT (T) certification within six months of completing their graduate program. CPR certification and current BLS are also required.
