Position Overview:
This role is dedicated to enhancing the educational experience of students who are deaf or hard of hearing by facilitating effective communication among students, educators, and peers through sign language.

Key Responsibilities:
To excel in this position, the individual must fulfill the following duties effectively:

  • Communication Facilitation: Ensure seamless communication between deaf and hard of hearing students and their surroundings by employing appropriate sign language techniques. This includes interpreting messages accurately while adhering to ethical guidelines.
  • Academic Tutoring: Provide academic support by tutoring students in various subjects under the guidance of a licensed educator.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed records of student interactions and activities to track progress and comply with educational standards.
  • Instructional Preparation: Develop visual and tactile instructional materials to enhance learning experiences.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with educational teams to monitor and support students in achieving their Individualized Education Plan (IEP) objectives.
  • Advocacy: Promote understanding of deaf culture and communication needs among staff and peers, fostering an inclusive environment.

Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree from an accredited Interpreter Preparation Program.
  • Completion of relevant coursework and experience in the field.
  • Educational Interpreter Authorization from the appropriate educational authority.

Skills and Abilities:
Successful candidates will demonstrate:
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and other signed communication methods.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse educational setting.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
