Position Overview:
As a Sign Language Interpreter Tutor, you will play a crucial role in enhancing the educational experience of students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Your primary responsibility will be to facilitate effective communication between students, educators, and peers through the use of sign language. You will also provide academic tutoring under the guidance of a licensed teacher.

Key Responsibilities:
To excel in this role, you will be expected to fulfill the following duties:
  • Communication Facilitation: Actively interpret and convey messages between deaf and hard of hearing students and others, ensuring clarity and accuracy in communication. This includes adapting your sign language to suit the learning levels of the students.
  • Academic Tutoring: Assist in tutoring academic subjects as required, collaborating closely with a licensed teacher to support student learning.
  • Documentation: Maintain thorough records of student interactions and progress, ensuring compliance with educational standards.
  • Instructional Preparation: Develop and prepare visual and tactile aids to enhance learning experiences for students.
  • Team Collaboration: Work with educational teams to monitor and ensure that students are achieving their Individualized Education Plan (IEP) goals.
  • Advocacy: Serve as an advocate for students by communicating their academic and social needs to relevant staff members.

Qualifications:
To be considered for this position, candidates should possess:
  • An Associate's degree from an accredited Interpreter Preparation/Training Program.
  • Experience in educational settings, particularly with students who have special needs.
  • Certification as an Educational Interpreter from the appropriate educational authority.
