Patient Access Coordinator

Allina Health is a not-for-profit health system that cares for individuals, families and communities throughout Minnesota and western Wisconsin. Our mission is to provide exceptional care as we prevent illness, restore health and provide comfort to all who entrust us with their care.
Key Position Details- 0.6 FTE (48 hours per two week pay period)
- 8-hour, permanent night shifts with variable shift times (7pm-3:30am or 10pm-6:30am)
- Every other weekend (7pm-3:30am)
As a Patient Access Representative, you will be responsible for greeting and welcoming patients in person. You will provide a standard registration process by collecting demographic and financial data and entering information into electronic medical records.
Key Responsibilities:
- Greet and welcome patients in person
- Collect demographic and insurance information
- Check in or interview patients to complete appropriate paperwork
- Direct patients to their appointment or procedure
- Document any issues and resolutions in electronic medical records
- May assist in scheduling add-on appointments
- Verify eligibility and benefits information for payers and interpret results
- Obtain cost information and explain information to patients if necessary
- Obtain signatures from patients as needed
- Collect co-pay or deductibles
- Determine patient need for financial counseling and offer to explain resources available
- May order supplies in designated work area
- Use resources, tools and procedures to complete accounts in assigned work queues
- Assist patients in completion of request for information forms and submit to appropriate department
- May gather medical record information from all departments for collection and distribution
- May mentor new staff
- Must be 18 years of age
- Education and/or experience needed to meet required functional competencies as listed on the job description
- 2 to 5 years of revenue cycle experience
- 2 to 5 years of customer service experience
- 0 to 2 years of general office experience
- 0 to 2 years of experience using computers including an electronic medical record, Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
