Job Title: Resource Teacher: Indian Education

Albuquerque Public Schools is seeking a highly qualified and dedicated Resource Teacher: Indian Education to join our team. This is a unique opportunity to make a positive impact on the education of Indigenous students and communities.

Job Summary:

The Resource Teacher: Indian Education will provide direct instructional support to teachers who are providing instruction to students in Indigenous Language bilingual programs. This includes providing demonstration lessons, assisting with curriculum development and implementation, and serving on district committees and task forces.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement effective language acquisition strategies for Indigenous students.
  • Collaborate with teachers to develop and implement culturally responsive curriculum.
  • Provide professional development and support to teachers on Indigenous language and culture.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of district policies and procedures related to Indigenous education.
Requirements:
  • Master's degree in bilingual education or related field.
  • Valid New Mexico Teacher's license.
  • Three years working with predominantly Native American students in an elementary or secondary school setting.
  • NM Native American Language and Culture (NALC) certificate.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience teaching the Zuni language in high school settings.
  • Experience teaching Native American studies.
  • Knowledge of indigenous education programs in theory and practice.
  • Knowledge of language development in relation to Indigenous students and communities.
