Job Overview

Martin/Martin, Inc. is seeking a Structural Engineer in Training (EIT) for our office. This role offers the chance to engage in a diverse array of projects utilizing various structural materials. The selected candidate will gain valuable experience in both the design of new structures and the assessment and retrofitting of existing buildings.

A typical week may involve:

  • Performing engineering calculations
  • Developing detailed drawings
  • Managing construction administration tasks
  • Conducting site visits

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilizing computer design and CAD/BIM software
  • Preparing calculations and details for project components
  • Learning about construction products and procedures
  • Drafting and compiling reports
  • Observing field conditions during construction
  • Applying relevant building codes and jurisdictional requirements
  • Reviewing shop drawings and product submissions
  • Conducting self-checks on work
  • Coordinating with other disciplines
  • Proactively identifying and proposing solutions to challenges
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed
  • Performing additional duties as assigned

Working Conditions and Skills Required

This position is primarily technical and requires both office and fieldwork to complete a variety of tasks. The following abilities are essential:

  • Mobility within and outside the office, including non-ADA accessible construction sites
  • Ability to remain stationary for extended periods
  • Repetitive movements, such as typing
  • Capability to carry, ascend, and descend ladders
  • Color identification
  • Proficient reading, communication, and documentation in English
  • Accurate information exchange
  • Occasional lifting of equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Investigative skills in atypical environments

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program in Architectural, Civil, Environmental, Construction, Structural, or a related field
  • Successful completion of the FE Examination

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program in Architectural, Civil, Structural, or a related field
  • Familiarity with building and material design codes
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
  • Excellent written, technical, and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to client service and teamwork
  • Experience with Autodesk Revit for construction documentation
  • Experience with structural analysis software such as RAM, SAP, ETABS, or RISA
  • Field experience in construction
  • 0-2 years of relevant experience
  • GPA of 3.5 or higher
