The Building Maintenance Specialist is tasked with executing preventive maintenance, conducting inspections, and performing installations and repairs on a variety of assigned equipment to guarantee optimal performance and functionality. Responsibilities may encompass automatic retrieval systems, dock apparatus, general facility upkeep, light carpentry, painting, changing light bulbs, minor electrical repairs, light plumbing tasks, and Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) maintenance, along with other essential facility repairs.
Available Shifts:
- 1st Shift: 7am-3:30pm
- 2nd Shift: 3:00pm-11:30pm
- 3rd Shift: 11:00pm-7:30am
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct routine inspections, basic installations, and minor repairs.
- Carry out general facility maintenance tasks, including light carpentry, painting, light plumbing, and changing light bulbs.
- Participate in the departmental on-call program as required.
- Maintain accurate records, such as work orders and reports, to ensure compliance with codes and regulations.
- Process work requests efficiently and submit completed work requests promptly.
- Utilize the electronic system to procure necessary parts and devices for repairs, adhering to departmental protocols.
- Ensure all tools and equipment are maintained in a clean and safe working condition.
- Keep an adequate inventory of related parts to fulfill assigned duties.
- Maintain technical skills and certifications necessary for job performance.
- Follow all safety protocols and wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Respond to emergencies to safeguard employee and facility safety.
- Promote a culture of safety within the department.
- Report potential safety concerns and suggest improvements.
- Comply with OSHA and other relevant regulations.
- Exhibit a friendly and efficient customer service attitude towards clients and colleagues.
- Respond professionally to customer inquiries.
- Collaborate with organizational leadership to support the strategic objectives of the organization.
- Adhere to organizational policies and procedures, including dress code and attendance.
- Participate in departmental committees or focus groups as needed.
- Build effective relationships and demonstrate cooperation with team members.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in facility maintenance.
- At least 3 years of experience in HVAC and electrical systems.
- Possess and maintain a valid driving record.
- Have a personal set of tools for job performance.
- Familiarity with computerized Preventative Maintenance (PM) and work order systems.
- Ability to learn various software programs related to the organization and facilities department.
- Strong technical, mechanical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication skills with all levels of staff and management.
- Ability to read and follow instructions accurately.
- Capable of handling challenging situations and resolving issues professionally.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced and stressful environment.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to withstand various weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
- Physical capability to reach, lift, climb ladders, crawl, and work in confined or dimly lit spaces, as well as at heights.
- Work environments may vary, including maintenance shops, buildings, outdoor areas, and more.
- Exposure to diverse temperatures and conditions, including oil, grease, and noise.
