The Children's Home of Poughkeepsie has a long-standing tradition of providing care for children throughout the Hudson Valley, dedicated to fostering optimal health and well-being for both children and their families.

We are currently looking for Child Care Specialists (bilingual candidates are preferred) to join our Unaccompanied Children (UC) Program.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Deliver trauma-informed care that aligns with agency training and respects the cultural and ethnic backgrounds of the children.

Guide, assist, and supervise youth in daily living activities, including personal care, cultural adaptation, life skills, and recreational activities.

Support educators with school-related tasks, vocational training, and homework assistance.

Carry out light housekeeping duties as needed.

Transport youth to medical appointments, court hearings, recreational outings, and other essential trips.

Help youth develop appropriate behavioral and social skills, fostering positive relationships with peers and adults.

Maintain a positive demeanor and serve as a suitable adult role model, embodying pro-social values that align with the agency's mission.

Attend all required training sessions, including New Hire Orientation, Sanctuary, TCI certifications, and CPR/First Aid certifications.

Complete 40 hours of annual training as mandated by the Office of Refugee Resettlement (O.R.R).

Ensure thorough and timely documentation of all activities.

Fulfill Mandated Reporter responsibilities in accordance with NYS Justice Center and OCFS regulations.

Adhere to all agency policies and procedures as outlined in the Child Care Manual, Employee Handbook, and Risk Management Manual.

Actively engage in the Quality Assurance and Improvement process by reviewing reports for potential enhancements.

Maintain compliance with regulations by completing an annual physical and PPD.

Perform any additional tasks assigned by the supervisor.



AVAILABLE SCHEDULES:
First Shift: 7am - 5pm (Sunday through Wednesday or Wednesday through Saturday)

Second Shift: 12pm - 10pm (Sunday through Wednesday or Wednesday through Saturday)

Overnight: 10pm - 8am (Team 1 - Sunday through Tuesday or Team 2 - Wednesday through Friday and every other Saturday)

The Children's Home offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, vision, dental, life insurance, 403(b), tuition reimbursement, paid time off, and a supportive work environment. Paid time off consists of 4 weeks of vacation, 3 personal days, 12 holidays, and 9 sick days annually.



ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
(Required) Must be at least 21 years of age.
A minimum of 1 year of experience in child welfare.
High School Diploma or equivalent.

Ability to engage in vigorous physical activity and participate actively in recreational activities, as well as in the agency's physical crisis intervention program.

Must be capable of evacuating children in emergencies through all designated exits.

A positive and friendly attitude towards children is essential.

A valid New York State Driver's License with a clean driving record as determined by the agency.



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bilingual in English and Spanish is strongly preferred for UC Programs.
