Position Overview

The Department of Food & Agriculture is seeking to hire an Environmental Scientist to join our dedicated team in Sacramento. This role is pivotal in conducting scientific analyses and gathering critical data related to environmental safety and food supply integrity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive analyses of environmental and food samples, including but not limited to water, soil, and biological materials, utilizing advanced chromatographic techniques to quantify contaminants.
  • Collect and analyze pesticide residue data to support local, state, and federal agencies in their regulatory and risk assessment efforts.
  • Ensure compliance with labeling standards by analyzing pesticides and related products in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Utilize sophisticated instrumentation to analyze minerals and dietary supplements, contributing to the Fertilizing Materials Inspection Program.
  • Conduct quantitative analyses and microscopy on various materials following approved methodologies.
  • Review and enhance existing methods and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to align with scientific advancements and customer requirements.
  • Validate analytical methods to ensure adherence to laboratory protocols and compliance with industry standards.
  • Apply scientific principles to identify and resolve issues related to environmental monitoring and hazardous materials management.

Work Environment

This position is primarily conducted indoors, with potential for telework as per departmental policies. The work setting is equipped with necessary laboratory tools and resources to facilitate effective analysis.
