POSITION SUMMARY:

The Claims Operations Supervisor plays a crucial role in leading and mentoring a team of claims professionals to ensure the effective management of both commercial and personal auto claims. This position requires a proactive leader who can operate independently and drive results with minimal oversight.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Recruit, train, and inspire a team of in-house claims specialists.
  • Assess performance, provide coaching, and implement disciplinary actions when necessary.
  • Conduct annual evaluations of team members' performance.
  • Oversee the management of Claims Supervisors and/or Claims Examiners.
  • Direct the allocation of new claims based on severity and established criteria.
  • Design, execute, and evaluate programs aimed at controlling costs associated with auto and liability claims.
  • Engage in the review of departmental procedures, recommending enhancements as needed.
  • Participate in discussions regarding significant loss cases.
  • Review and authorize reserves and payments as required.
  • Ensure adherence to customer service standards, addressing escalated claims-related issues or inquiries.
  • Guarantee compliance with legal obligations and applicable regulations in all claim-related matters.
  • Assist in responding to inquiries from regulatory bodies.
  • Develop and oversee controls related to reporting, audits, claims payments, and respond to both internal and external audits.
  • Support senior management in tracking and developing performance metrics.
  • Adhere to all relevant laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To excel in this role, candidates must demonstrate the ability to fulfill each essential duty effectively. The following qualifications are necessary:

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in claims management, with substantial exposure to investigating and resolving coverage issues.
  • Prior experience in a leadership or supervisory capacity, ideally with both litigated and non-litigated claims.
  • Proficiency in claims-related computer systems.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking and presentation abilities.
  • Thorough understanding of insurance policy provisions, practices, laws, and regulations.
  • Capability to interpret laws and regulations, determine appropriate actions, and resolve claims effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, with a positive demeanor.
  • Ability to follow instructions and execute tasks efficiently.
  • Experience managing claims across various jurisdictions is preferred.
  • Experience in commercial auto and/or nonstandard personal auto claims is required.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) is preferred but not mandatory.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Candidates should possess the following:

  • 10 years of claims handling experience, including 3 years in a supervisory role.
  • A college degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • SCLA/AIC designation is preferred but not essential.
