Job Summary

The Shelby County Sheriff's Department is seeking a Counselor to assist in implementing individual and group counseling programs. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in psychology, sociology, criminal justice, or a related field, and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Process intake data for new cases and arrange conference or group sessions.
  2. Assist in preparing program files and individual histories.
  3. Work with related agencies to exchange information.
  4. Lead group discussions and lectures to therapy or counseling groups.
  5. Prepare evaluations and reports.
  6. Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in psychology, sociology, criminal justice, or a related field.
  • Ability to establish and maintain meaningful rapport with participants.
  • Knowledge of legal methodology in processing cases.
  • Ability to write meaningful reports.
  • Ability to gather and interpret case histories.

Working Conditions

The Counselor will work in a jail-secured environment and be available for shift and weekend work as required.
