School Counselor Job Description

The Memphis School of Excellence is seeking a highly qualified School Counselor to join our team. As a School Counselor, you will play a vital role in promoting student success, providing preventive services, and responding to identified student needs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses academic, career, and personal/social development for all students.
  • Provide individual and group counseling services to students, as well as present developmental lessons in the classroom.
  • Serve as a student advocate, consulting with teachers, administrators, and parents to support student success.
  • Participate in school meetings and provide staff development in identified areas of need.
  • Coordinate school activities related to the school counseling program and facilitate the evaluation of the program.
Requirements:
  1. Requires a Bachelor's degree and endorsement in the grade/subject taught with a valid Tennessee certificate.
  2. Educational Requirements: Option 1 - Complete a graduate degree with an approved preparation program in school guidance and counseling, or Option 2 - Hold a graduate degree in community/agency counseling and be enrolled in an approved graduate program in school counseling.
  3. Must be highly qualified and physically and mentally able to perform the responsibilities and duties of the position.

  • Human Interaction: Requires the ability to provide guidance, effective supervision, assistance, and/or interpretation to others.
  • Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization: Requires the ability to operate, maneuver, and/or control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in performing essential functions.
