Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Counselor to join our team at Shelby County. As a Counselor, you will work under general supervision to assist in implementing individual and group counseling programs within the Sheriff's Department.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Process intake data for new cases and arrange conference or group sessions.
  2. Assist in the preparation of program files and individual histories.
  3. Work with various related agencies in exchange of information, as required.
  4. Lead group discussions to accommodate the needs of the group, as required.
  5. Lecture to therapy or counseling groups and monitor discussions.
  6. Utilize recreational, physical education, and other therapeutic activities counseling aids, as required.
  7. Prepare evaluations and reports, as required.
  8. Perform other related duties as required or directed.

Requirements

  1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in psychology, sociology, criminal justice, or a related field.
  2. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  3. PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED.

Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work in a jail-secured environment and be available for shift and weekend work as required.
