Position Overview:

The Employment Program Coordinator is responsible for facilitating group-based training in employment, career, and life skills for project participants. This role includes providing support for placement opportunities for Internationally Trained Professionals and newcomer youth, while fostering connections between mentees and mentors in the social services sector.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments for mentors to identify their needs.
  • Organize events such as job fairs and networking opportunities to connect employers with mentees.
  • Develop and oversee unpaid placement opportunities for Internationally Trained Professionals and newcomer youth.
  • Match mentee skills with mentor requirements.
  • Ensure that placement mentors provide safe and suitable opportunities.
  • Maintain compliance with program standards among placement mentors.
  • Build and sustain partnerships with mentors and relevant agencies to support client needs.
  • Assist program participants in establishing support networks.
  • Provide personalized one-on-one support to mentees in a client-focused manner.
  • Support mentees in their job search efforts.
  • Assist with intake and assessment processes.
  • Monitor mentee attendance and generate reports as necessary.
  • Collaborate with Employment Counsellors to identify and provide financial support options.
  • Develop educational programs or workshops tailored to mentees' labor market integration challenges.
  • Facilitate workshops using various platforms, focusing on employment, career, and life skills.
  • Offer practical support, guidance, and resources to participants as needed.
  • Create specific resources to enhance participant learning.
  • Collect client information and program data for reporting purposes.
  • Contribute to program improvements through recommendations based on research and reports.
  • Participate actively as a member of both the Centre team and project team.
  • Engage in team meetings and other Centre activities as required.

Qualifications:

Education: Relevant college or university degree, preferably in social sciences.

Experience: 3-5 years in areas such as:

  • Working with newcomers, refugees, or Internationally Trained Professionals facing barriers to employment.
  • Understanding the challenges job seekers encounter.
  • Experience with diverse populations.
  • Building sustainable partnerships with community mentor agencies.
  • Knowledge of employment trends and legislation.
  • Strong documentation and case management skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse clients and colleagues.
  • Proven outreach skills to develop partnerships with job seekers and stakeholders.
  • Understanding of mentoring and volunteer management principles.
  • Familiarity with community and social service resources for job seekers.

Personal Attributes:

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle for travel to various sites.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • Comfortable providing services in a hybrid model, including in-person and virtual support.
