JOB SUMMARY:

The Lead Mechanical Engineer represents a significant advancement in the Engineering Technical Career Path for professionals who have exhibited exceptional proficiency in engineering capabilities and knowledge. This role is tailored for those aiming to achieve the pinnacle of technical specialization. The Lead Mechanical Engineer will oversee projects that encompass the evaluation, analysis, modeling, and design calculations pertinent to various machinery lines. This position also involves mentoring junior engineers to facilitate knowledge transfer and training in their specialized fields. Daily tasks typically include the validation of inspection outcomes, endorsement of schematics and layouts, drafting technical documentation, performing design computations, and presenting findings to diverse audiences both within and outside the organization. The Lead Mechanical Engineer is expected to innovate and devise unique solutions to challenges by keeping informed about the latest industry advancements and technologies. Additionally, this role may involve leading remote projects, which could necessitate travel for field assessments, inspections, or to provide engineering solutions. Professionals at this level should possess a comprehensive understanding of equipment operations and relate that knowledge back to their design considerations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Act as a technical authority in the design, development, and evaluation of product designs that fulfill the functional, cost, reliability, manufacturability, and safety standards of the organization.
  2. Continuously enhance engineering expertise to the highest standards.
  3. Provide mentorship to less experienced engineers, sharing insights and knowledge.
  4. Lead engineering evaluations for projects involving intricate designs and advanced calculations.
  5. Independently assess inspection documentation and provide engineering judgments in line with established protocols.
  6. Continuously refine design methodologies for improved efficiency and precision.
  7. Guide designers in the creation of 2D and 3D CAD layouts and machinery redesigns.
  8. Review and authorize detailed design drawings and machinery layouts.
  9. Exhibit high proficiency in utilizing engineering software such as 3D CAD modeling tools and/or specialized software relevant to specific technical fields.
  10. Demonstrate expertise in core technical disciplines and begin to cultivate a specialization in one of those areas.
  11. Be capable of directing remote field installations and equipment start-ups.
  12. Manage budgets, timelines, and resources across multiple projects.
  13. Effectively communicate technical information across all organizational levels as well as to external clients and the industrial sector.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Proven expertise in the engineering technical disciplines relevant to the organization's product lines.
  2. Familiarity with the fundamental design principles and operational aspects of the complete range of products.
  3. Demonstrated skill with specialized design tools and software used within the organization, with a focus on at least one significant technical discipline.
  4. History of meeting deadlines and fulfilling commitments.
  5. Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  6. Strong leadership capabilities in project management.
  7. Mechanical aptitude for machinery and the ability to propose enhancements to drawings, engineering standards, inspection reports, and other service-related documents.
  8. Ability to juggle multiple projects while establishing priorities and timelines.
  9. Ability to make informed decisions independently based on knowledge and experience.
  10. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
JOB REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (mechanical preferred). An advanced degree is advantageous.
  2. Training Requirements: High proficiency with solid modeling software, computational analytical tools, specialized design application software, and general office software.
OTHER INFORMATION:
  1. Travel may be necessary, typically between 5% - 15%.
  2. This is a full-time role with a minimum expectation of 40 hours per week. Additional hours may be required based on project demands.
  3. Participation in random or customer-specific drug and alcohol screening and background checks may be required.
  4. Ability to handle high-pressure situations professionally.
  5. Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  6. Physical capability to lift 30 pounds and stand for extended periods.
