Cardiovascular Surgery Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Role

About the Role
Hartford HealthCare Heart & Vascular Institute is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner APRN to join the busy and growing Department of Cardiac Surgery.
Under the direction of a cardiothoracic surgeon, the Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner APRN will be responsible for performing a variety of duties, including first assisting cardiovascular surgical procedures, endoscopic vessel harvesting, preoperative history and physical examination, postoperative care in an outpatient clinical setting, and patient education.
The successful candidate will also support patient care from the point of admission to discharge in service, Step-Down, and ICU, managing multiple patients with varied critical illness, comprehensive physical assessments, interpretation of diagnostic results, hemodynamic/ventilator management, and invasive procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- First assisting cardiovascular surgical procedures
- Endoscopic vessel harvesting
- Preoperative history and physical examination
- Postoperative care in an outpatient clinical setting
- Patient education
- Supporting patient care from admission to discharge in service, Step-Down, and ICU
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner APRN Master's program
- Licensed, or eligible to be licensed, as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner APRN in the state of Connecticut
- Certification or eligible to be certified as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner APRN
- 2+ years' experience in cardiovascular surgery and/or 2+ years' experience as a PA/APRN in critical care setting
- First assistant experience, including endoscopic vein harvesting skills preferred
