Position Overview


The Operations Supervisor plays a crucial role in overseeing the daily activities of transit operators and ensuring effective communication among all team members. This position is vital for maintaining safety standards and operational efficiency.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Clearly communicate job expectations and responsibilities to all operational staff and dispatchers.
  • Assist operators in documenting incidents and safety violations.
  • Address safety concerns on-site while ensuring proper documentation.
  • Act as a liaison among operators, clients, and the organization to resolve customer service issues.
  • Support safety personnel in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Transit Administration (FTA) regulations.
  • Participate in dispatching, scheduling, and various clerical tasks as required.
  • Maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and operate vehicles as needed.
  • Investigate and respond to customer complaints.
  • Keep accurate records of service interruptions, route changes, and other assigned reports.
  • Conduct thorough investigations of accidents or incidents, including evidence collection and witness interviews.
  • Provide on-the-road supervision and support to operators.
  • Review and address complaints with operators, conducting necessary investigations.
  • Manage incoming calls related to vehicle dispatch and ensure timely information transmission.
  • Utilize computerized routing and scheduling software to monitor operations.
  • Exercise independent judgment in emergency situations.
  • Assist operators with road calls and supervision.
  • Occasionally perform duties of a Transit Vehicle Operator.
  • Oversee daily dispatching activities, coordinate trip assignments, and monitor radio communications.
  • Assign vehicles for daily service and manage operator work assignments.
  • Serve as a senior management representative after hours, addressing various operational issues.
  • Monitor subcontractor services and ensure maintenance of facilities and equipment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:


  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience in a transit environment preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and AVL Software; Trapeze experience is a plus.
  • Understanding of basic vehicle mechanical systems and inspection procedures.
  • Strong prioritization and time management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Proficient in report writing.
  • Basic knowledge of radio dispatch equipment.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions with minimal supervision.
  • Capable of building effective working relationships with colleagues.
  • Flexibility to work varied schedules, including nights and weekends.
  • High school diploma or equivalent experience required.
  • Valid driver's license with a minimum of two years of driving experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with communication equipment and mobile technology.
  • Transit experience is required; public transit experience is preferred.
  • Prior dispatch or supervisory experience is advantageous.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:


  • Ability to hear, speak, and see effectively.
  • Capability to perform inspections requiring bending, kneeling, or squatting.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods during inspections and training.
  • Willingness to work in various environmental conditions.
  • Physical mobility within the office and between floors.
  • Capacity to lift objects as needed.
