Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver safe and dependable transportation services to passengers by operating various vehicles, including sedans, vans, paratransit vans, limousines, taxi-cabs, shuttles, transit buses, school buses, and motor coaches on fixed or variable routes.
- Identify and report maintenance issues in accordance with company procedures, ensuring the vehicle remains safe for operation.
- Punctually report for duty and adhere to assigned routes while prioritizing safety.
- Assist passengers in evacuating the vehicle during emergencies.
- Promptly report any accidents or incidents following company policy.
- Manage passenger behavior in accordance with company guidelines.
- Communicate effectively with relevant personnel regarding any issues or procedures.
- Maintain a clean and presentable interior of the assigned vehicle.
- Exhibit a professional appearance at all times.
- Ensure proper fueling of the vehicle as per facility protocols.
- Complete all necessary documentation, including route change sheets, time cards, and vehicle repair requests, and submit them promptly.
- Foster a cooperative environment with colleagues, supervisors, customers, and passengers while promoting company goodwill.
- Prepare the vehicle for adverse weather conditions, including clearing windows and applying tire chains.
- Utilize vehicle equipment safely and efficiently, including wheelchair lifts, radios, and emergency tools.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- For Paratransit Drivers, additional responsibilities may include:
- Experience in transporting senior and/or disabled individuals according to scheduled appointments.
- Providing personalized assistance to senior or disabled passengers using necessary equipment for a secure and comfortable ride.
- Allowing adequate time for individuals with disabilities to board or disembark from the vehicle.
- Prior experience as a Paratransit Driver is recommended.
Qualifications:
Essential Requirements:
- Minimum age of 21 years; for specific roles, such as Tennessee School Bus Drivers, a minimum age of 25 is required by state law.
- Possession or ability to obtain all necessary state licenses and certifications to operate company vehicles.
- Meet physical and medical standards and pass substance abuse screenings; as a safety-sensitive position, random screenings will be conducted as per company policy.
- Successfully complete all training and attend safety and in-service meetings to maintain qualifications.
- Thorough understanding of traffic laws and regulations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to assist passengers physically when needed.
- High level of attention and dexterity in operating various vehicles.
- Practice defensive driving consistently to prevent accidents.
- Adhere to all applicable company, federal, state, county, district, and contract-specific driver requirements.
