About the Role

The City of New York is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Public Health Specialist to join the Bureau of Tuberculosis Control. As a key member of the team, you will play a critical role in preventing the spread of tuberculosis and eliminating it as a public health problem in New York City.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct interviews and educate patients infected with communicable diseases
  • Elicit contacts and other information to locate or identify the source of infection and prevent further spread of the disease
  • Conduct surveillance activities, including administering diagnostic tests and collecting/transporting specimens
  • Make site visits to hospitals and private medical offices to conduct record reviews and extract data
  • Manage and monitor patients suspected, confirmed to have disease and contacts from diagnosis thru completion treatment or final status determination
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, including or supplemented by twelve semester credits in health education, or in health, social or biological sciences. Alternatively, you may have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and six months of full-time satisfactory experience in a health promotion or disease intervention/prevention program.
