Position Overview: The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) plays a pivotal role in managing the financial and business services that align with the tribal mission and vision, while also supporting the objectives of the Business Council. This executive will serve as a vital strategic partner, overseeing financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting, and enhancing operational and financial performance to foster the tribe's growth ambitions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure optimal utilization of tribal financial resources and provide essential information to stakeholders.
  • Achieve defined goals through effective planning, evaluation, development, implementation, and maintenance of services in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Actively participate as a member of the Business Council leadership team.
  • Manage the complete financial reporting portfolio, supporting business and economic development initiatives with comprehensive forecasting.
  • Establish and nurture strong interpersonal relationships with the Business Council and General Council members.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance or a related discipline.
  • Master's degree and/or CPA designation is highly preferred.
  • Over 15 years of progressively responsible experience in professional accounting, ideally within tribal government or related fields, with a strong leadership background.

Technical Skills:

  • Proven experience in managing an organization's investment portfolio, with a focus on strategy, asset allocation, and performance monitoring.
  • Expertise in cash flow management and ensuring fund availability.
  • Experience in identifying new investment opportunities and assessing potential returns and risks.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, GASB, FASB, and relevant financial regulations.
  • Experience with large-scale transformational initiatives and process improvements.
  • Strong understanding of budgeting processes and analysis.
  • Experience in implementing financial/ERP systems in complex environments.
