Job Overview:

The Early Childhood Family Support Specialist position is a vital role within the Tribal Government, responsible for building positive and inclusive developmentally appropriate environments for young children. This position requires a strong understanding of early childhood development, social-emotional health, and mental health services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate the referral process for children and families attending Tribal Government programs.
  • Support the social-emotional health and development of children through positive and inclusive practices.
  • Work effectively with children and families with challenging behaviors and individual developmental differences.
  • Enhance relationships involved in the care setting, create nurturing and emotionally responsive environments, and strengthen staff effectiveness in interactions with children and families.
  • Build strong family alliances with Tribal Government programs.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of five years' experience in working with young children in a classroom setting or in-home providing consultation, support, mentoring, and training to individuals and small and large groups of adults.
  • Knowledge in the areas of early childhood developmentally appropriate practices, concepts of early child development, and mental health disorders.
  • Ability to integrate mental health services and philosophies in group settings.
  • Experience with assessment of young children's social and emotional functioning.
  • Experience supporting children and adults affected by poverty, trauma, and multitude of other stressful, adverse experiences.
  • Requires excellent skills in communication, observation, interviewing, and assessment.
  • Ability to work with adults and children and knowledge of learning styles.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to ethical standards of the profession.
  • Demonstrate a sincere desire to aid all students, employees, and the community, and display compassion, kindness, and tolerance.
  • Professional, self-motivated, and self-directed.
  • Experience with the Conscious Discipline.
  • CPR/First Aid certification required.
  • Pass background check, work physical, and drug test.
  • Valid Class D driver's license may be required with a good driving record.
