Position Overview

This role is integral to the operations of our facilities. Candidates must be based in the United States.

Controls and Instrumentation Specialist Responsibilities

As a Controls and Instrumentation Specialist, you will oversee the upkeep and repair of all instrumentation and electrical systems within the facility. This includes both corrective and preventive maintenance on process control instruments, control valves, control systems, motors, motor control centers, and other electrical components utilized in power generation facilities. The position requires a commitment to a 12-hour shift schedule, including weekends and holidays, as necessary. This role is classified as safety-sensitive.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and rectify issues with process control instruments and control valves.
  • Calibrate both electronic and pneumatic pressure transmitters and controllers.
  • Repair or replace temperature sensors such as thermocouples or RTDs.
  • Install stainless steel tubing for instrumentation.
  • Address and resolve issues with electrical motors and plant electrical systems.
  • Complete material requisitions accurately and thoroughly.
  • Document all work performed on work orders with precision.
  • Execute tasks as directed by the Electrical and Instrumentation Supervisor.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization, including company vehicles.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols established by Atlantica.
  • During rotating shifts, all meal periods and breaks will be compensated as on-duty time. Collaborate with colleagues and supervisors to manage work activities effectively during these periods.

  • Interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings.
  • Utilize computers for work order management and information retrieval.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Adapt to varying work schedules and weekend duties as needed.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn and develop new skills in a dynamic environment.
  • Utilize various hand and power tools, as well as testing equipment.
  • Analyze equipment failures and recommend improvements for reliability.
  • Proficiently use Digital Multimeters and HART Communicators.
  • Complete all required training.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Recognize that this is a safety-sensitive position, requiring responsibility for personal and others' safety.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent; plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience as a Controls and Instrumentation Technician in an industrial setting. A valid driver's license is required.

  • Familiarity with personal computers, Microsoft Office 365, and SAP.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to communicate effectively in English and perform physical tasks, occasionally lifting up to 20 pounds and frequently lifting 10 pounds. Tasks may include grasping, lifting, reaching, standing, walking, climbing, and repetitive motions. Must be able to distinguish colors and operate emergency equipment when necessary.

Work Environment

Work is conducted in a typical power plant environment, with potential exposure to varying temperatures, noise levels, and other environmental factors. Personal protective equipment is required, and the ability to operate company vehicles is necessary. The position involves 12-hour shifts, with on-duty meals and breaks included.
