Job Description

Job Summary:

The Engineering Manager - Flight Test Operations will lead the Flight Test Operation engineering team, a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and technical specialists. This manager will work with other staff and teams at Flight Test Operation to drive continuous improvement, ensure reliability and safe execution of flight tests.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Flight Test Operation engineering team to achieve service, quality, and timeliness of objectives.
  • Manage the team's ability to achieve service, quality, and timeliness of objectives.
  • Ensure on-time delivery of flight test aircraft ready to perform stated test missions with FTY=1 (first time yield).
  • Establish work group goals within the framework of section technical and financial objectives.
  • Maintain broad awareness of efforts within the group to assure technical quality excellence, timely completion of work and reviews, appropriate use of resources, and responsiveness to customer/program needs.
  • Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures.
  • Formulate and implement plans to achieve technical and program requirements, schedules, and contract commitments.
  • Monitor and communicate project status, business issues, and significant developments as appropriate.
  • Influence the development of strategy for the area of responsibility, including control of resources and influences policy formulation.
  • Facilitate communication of technical and project information between organizations and within the work group.
  • Execute and provide guidance for the analysis/evaluation of assigned projects that meet business standards, practices, and procedures and the product/program requirements.
  • Define and develop product processes related to design, analysis, test, materials, manufacture, quality, and/or productivity.
  • Promote professional growth through timely performance feedback, training, coaching, counseling, and assignments.
  • Ensure company compliance initiatives and training requirements are implemented within the work group.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science.
  • Minimum of 5 additional years of experience in a Technical or Engineering position.
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible and off-shift hours (including 1st, 2nd, 3rd shift, nights, weekends, and holidays) when business needs dictate.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to and support operations at offsite locations when business needs dictate.
  • Ability and willingness to fly aboard an experimental aircraft including participation in development flight tests.
  • Able to obtain and maintain FAA Class-3 medical certificate or equivalent.
  • Team champion and advocate, with effective leadership/team building skills.
  • Project management and execution experience in a cross-functional team environment with projects of moderate complexity across.
  • Ability to lead several programs/projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs.
  • Established project management skills.
  • Familiarity with design, test, and analysis tools, flight test operation, turbomachinery operation, airframe/propulsion system integration.
  • Familiarity with flight test and turbomachinery instrumentation (application, data acquisition, and troubleshooting).
  • Experience with propulsion testing techniques and methods.
  • Demonstrated experience with experimental flight testing of large aircraft or propulsion systems.
  • Knowledgeable about 14 CFR Part 91 Operations.
