The Surgical Services Support Specialist in the operating room will play a crucial role in delivering routine care that contributes to safe and effective patient management in the Surgical Services Department under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Transport patients and deliver urgent patient specimens to designated areas.
  • Retrieve blood and blood products from the blood bank.
  • Assist the perioperative charge nurse in the patient holding area.
  • Perform surgical clipping in accordance with departmental policies.
  • Support the surgical team with patient positioning, movement, and lifting.
  • Assist with room turnover and termination processes.
  • Provide assistance to nursing staff in operating room suites as needed.
  • Demonstrate fundamental knowledge of cleaning protocols for room turnover and termination.
  • Prepare, clean, and deliver equipment to operating room suites.
  • Return cleaned equipment to the appropriate locations.
  • Maintain a tidy, safe, and clean environment.
  • Restock daily supplies and prepare supplies for the following day.
  • Dispose of trash, linen, and used equipment from the operating room at the end of cases.
  • Clean equipment, operating tables, floors, and kick buckets in assigned operating rooms.
  • Ensure availability of personal protective equipment in assigned rooms and hallways.
  • Keep the decontamination room organized and clean, sending dirty carts to Sterile Processing.
  • Prepare stretchers for holding use.
  • Meet all full-time or part-time work hour requirements as hired.
  • Fulfill all weekday and weekend on-call obligations.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • At least 1 year of experience in a healthcare-related role is preferred.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods; must be capable of lifting over 25 lbs and assisting with patient positioning and transfers, with the ability to lift 50 lbs or more.

Work Environment and Shift Requirements:

  • Onsite work required.
  • Two 10-hour shifts per week; unit hours of operation are from 5 AM to 10 PM.
  • On-call component is mandatory.

Compensation Range:

  • $16.00 to $18.53 per hour.
