Overview

This role primarily focuses on the field assessment of diverse construction initiatives related to new developments, renovations, and utility projects. Typical assignments encompass hot mix asphalt paving, curb and sidewalk installations, drainage enhancements, traffic maintenance, utility infrastructure, and more. The individual in this position will be tasked with documenting daily construction activities and ensuring compliance with established standards.

Key Responsibilities

The key responsibilities are fundamental, core duties shared across all roles within this classification and are not intended to be an exhaustive enumeration of all job tasks for any single position.

Evaluates infrastructure to confirm adherence to design specifications, material standards, safety protocols, construction methodologies, and applicable local, state, and federal regulations; documents and reports on compliance or deficiencies.
Develops, reviews, and assesses engineering project layouts, alignments, profiles, studies, graphs, and related activities.
Compiles and archives notes, sketches, test outcomes, inspection data, and other relevant information to substantiate compliance and/or formulate designs, specifications, reports, maps, and other geographically based data.
Conducts various studies to assist others in analyzing needs and formulating plans, recording characteristics, and other related activities.
Performs data analysis to verify the accuracy of collected information, generate recommendations, develop corrective designs, and/or ensure compliance.
Tests and evaluates the quality of materials or designs to confirm adherence to contracts and specifications.
Gathers survey data, including angles, elevations, points, and contours, utilizing electronic distance measuring devices and other surveying tools.
Calculates and measures area and volume dimensions, horizontal and vertical geometry, profile and component specifications, and material testing dimensions using calculators or computers.
Operates computer-aided drafting equipment or other trade tools.
Reads and interprets plans, specifications, blueprints, and other engineering documentation.

Qualifications

Requirements for Engineering/Planning/Surveying Technician II

Candidates must possess education, training, and/or experience demonstrating proficiency in each of the following areas:

Public Works:

At least six months of experience in applied mathematical computations, including algebra and geometry. At least six months of experience in interpreting construction plans, details, schematics, or technical drawings. Knowledge of reviewing construction plans and details, project specifications, schematics, or technical drawings to assess compliance. Familiarity with utilizing an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve, and report on data. Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked, or canceled, or disqualified from driving).
