Northrop Grumman Advanced Weapons has an opening for a Principal Software Systems Engineer with an active clearance, to become a vital member of our diverse and qualified team.

This role will be situated in Northridge, CA. The selected candidate for this position is required to be on-site in Northridge, CA. Relocation assistance, while not guaranteed, may be available.

As a key contributor to our multi-disciplinary engineering team in Advanced Weapons, you will be at the forefront of crafting next-generation solutions to safeguard technology for our nation's defense personnel.

The ideal candidate will be engaged in defining and architecting a secured missile weapon system.

This role necessitates close collaboration with team members from various projects within the organization for security architecture designs, as well as with external partners and clients.


Key Responsibilities:
A successful candidate will exhibit the essential qualities and functional expertise to:

  • Develop and implement software for embedded devices and systems based on requirements.
  • Design, develop, code, test, and debug system software.
  • Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle activities in an agile environment.
  • Conduct software requirements verification and validation.
Basic qualifications for a Principal Software Systems Engineer level (T03):

  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM related field with 5 years of experience in Computer Engineering or Software Engineering, or a Master's with 3 years of experience in Computer Engineering or Software Engineering.
  • Self-starters who can efficiently operate in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in one or more Software languages/technologies: C/C++, Java, Python, C#.
  • Experience with the complete software lifecycle: specification, design, implementation, integration, debugging, and maintenance are required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance; U.S. citizenship is a prerequisite.
  • A year or more of experience working in an Agile team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with software version control tools such as Git.
  • Experience in embedded systems design with preemptive, multitasking real-time operating systems.
  • Knowledge of embedded software such as VxWorks.
  • Experience using

Atlassian Tool Suite:
JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket, SonarQube.

  • Experience with VxWorks.

Salary Range:
$107,300 - $160,900The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.

In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
