Job Overview

The City of New Albany Parks Department is seeking a dedicated full-time maintenance technician. This role is essential for ensuring the upkeep, repair, preparation, and enhancement of the facilities, buildings, and parks within the Parks and Recreation sector, all aimed at delivering an exceptional experience for our community.

Key Responsibilities

  1. *Perform outdoor responsibilities including grounds and park maintenance, athletic field upkeep, construction, and repair of park structures.
  2. *Conduct indoor maintenance tasks such as routine upkeep of city park buildings, janitorial duties, and preventative maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
  3. *Execute maintenance tasks requiring knowledge in various areas including auto mechanics, plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, and HVAC systems.
  4. *Operate and maintain park and specialty equipment, as well as commercial vehicles exceeding 2,000 pounds.
  5. *Understand safe operation and maintenance of department facilities, vehicles, and tools.
  6. *Possess knowledge of landscaping, turf management, and safe chemical application practices.
  7. *Maintain regular communication with supervisors regarding project statuses and completion of assigned tasks.
  8. *Oversee both short-term and long-term maintenance operations, including material handling and safety adherence.
  9. *Assist in the procurement and inventory management of materials and supplies.
  10. *Identify and report unsafe conditions and take corrective actions as necessary.
  11. *Participate in training sessions and staff meetings as required.
  12. *Maintain a thorough understanding of departmental functions.
  13. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

Qualifications
  1. High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent is required.
  2. Preferred certifications in parks and recreation or maintenance.
  3. Experience in maintaining athletic fields and park grounds is desirable.
  4. Mechanical aptitude in auto and diesel mechanics is preferred.
  5. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  6. Effective oral and written communication skills are essential.
  7. A friendly and approachable demeanor is important.
  8. Willingness to take on additional responsibilities as needed.
  9. A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are required.
  10. Familiarity with OSHA standards and safety practices is preferred.
  11. First aid and CPR certification is a plus.
