Job Overview

The City of New Albany Parks Department is seeking a dedicated maintenance professional to join our team. This full-time position is essential for the upkeep, repair, and enhancement of our facilities, parks, and recreational areas, ensuring an exceptional experience for all visitors.

Key Responsibilities

*Indicates essential functions of the role

  1. *Perform outdoor maintenance tasks, including grounds upkeep, athletic field care, and the construction and repair of park structures.
  2. *Conduct indoor maintenance duties, such as routine upkeep of park buildings, janitorial tasks, and preventative maintenance for vehicles and equipment.
  3. *Execute maintenance activities requiring skills in auto mechanics, diesel mechanics, plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, masonry, painting, HVAC, and construction.
  4. *Operate and maintain park equipment and vehicles, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
  5. *Possess knowledge of safe operational practices for tools, equipment, and facilities.
  6. *Understand landscaping and turf management, including chemical application and pesticide practices.
  7. *Maintain effective communication with supervisors regarding project status and completion of maintenance tasks.
  8. *Oversee both short-term and long-term maintenance operations, including inventory management and adherence to safety protocols.
  9. *Assist in the procurement and inventory management of materials and supplies.
  10. *Identify and report unsafe conditions, ensuring proper use of equipment and materials.
  11. *Participate in training sessions and staff meetings as required.
  12. *Maintain a thorough understanding of departmental functions.
  13. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements
  1. High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent is required.
  2. Preferred certifications in parks and recreation or maintenance.
  3. Experience in maintaining athletic fields and park grounds is desirable.
  4. Mechanical aptitude in auto and diesel mechanics is advantageous.
  5. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  6. Effective oral and written communication skills are essential.
  7. A friendly and approachable demeanor is preferred.
  8. Willingness to undertake additional responsibilities as needed.
  9. A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are required.
  10. Familiarity with OSHA standards and safety practices is beneficial.
  11. First aid and CPR certification is a plus.
Working Conditions
  1. This role involves both indoor and outdoor work environments.
  2. Outdoor work may occur in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow.
  3. A flexible work schedule, including nights and weekends, may be necessary.
  4. Exposure to moving mechanical parts is possible.
