Position Overview
As an Offshore Oiler, you will work under the supervision of the First Assistant Engineer and the Junior Engineer. A solid understanding of all engine room machinery and auxiliary systems is essential to assist in monitoring trends, supporting plant operations, troubleshooting issues, and responding to emergencies. Participation in drills and adherence to safety regulations and pollution prevention measures are required. Additionally, you will perform routine maintenance and assist engineers with repairs on board machinery. Responsibilities include conducting rounds of equipment, recording pressure and temperature readings, and reporting any irregularities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor equipment and perform maintenance tasks
  • Clean main engine scavenge air box
  • Maintain lube and fuel oil purifiers and filters
  • Conduct tank soundings and top off tanks as directed
  • Assist with crane and rigging operations after training
  • Maintain cleanliness in deck, engine room, and living spaces
  • Perform general maintenance on all equipment
  • Engage in chipping, scraping, and painting tasks
  • Lubricate and grease machinery
  • Work typically involves 12-hour shifts, including 4 hours of overtime

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
  • Possess or be able to obtain a U.S. Passport
  • Hold a Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC)
  • Have a Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC)
  • Possess the following endorsements on MMC:
  • Able Seafarer - Engine
  • Rating Forming Part of an Engineering Watch (RFPEW)
  • Qualified Member of the Engine Department (QMED)
  • Willing and able to:
  • Be away from home for extended periods
  • Push/pull up to 200 pounds
  • Lift/carry up to 100 pounds from floor to shoulder
  • Lift from floor to overhead and transport items weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Climb various ladders and stairs ranging from 5 to 200 feet
  • Perform maintenance on equipment
  • Stand for extended periods
  • Physically attend to vessels, including confined space entry
  • Work outdoors in harsh weather conditions
  • Work independently a significant portion of the time

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 1+ years of experience on a crude oil tanker
  • 1+ years of experience on a product tanker
  • Hold the following endorsements on MMC:
  • Basic Training endorsement
  • Basic Oil Tanker Cargo Operations endorsement
  • Vessel Personnel with Designated Security Duties endorsement (VPDSD)
  • Security Awareness endorsement
  • Tankerman Assistant endorsement (not barges) or Tankerman P.I.C.
  • Willing and able to work overtime
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to follow instructions clearly
  • Ability to apply common sense to achieve desired outcomes
  • Organized, efficient, and methodical problem solver
  • Takes ownership of actions and follows through on commitments
  • Delivers positive results through realistic planning
  • Builds effective solutions based on available information

Note: All unlicensed employees earn paid leave based on twenty-five (25) days of paid leave for every thirty (30) days of sea service. Tour lengths typically range from 65-85 days, with an average of seventy-five (75) days onboard and sixty (60) days of paid leave.
Important: This position requires a TWIC card for access to secure areas of regulated facilities and vessels. Candidates selected for this position must provide proof of application for this card.
